The Indian government is ready on its intentions of launching a $35 tablet, Sakshat[Sanskrit: ???????? "Embodiment"], for students and teachers. It looks like this project is finally set to take off with the laptop being expected to be launched sometime this month.While the original prototype unveiled in 2009 for $10 was a failure,the new prototype, at about $35 is of expectation.
Certainly it.s been aimed not a professional based usage but rather aimed on empowering Student Education in India.Sakshat tablet has been developed as part of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology that aims to link 25,000 colleges and 400 universities on the subcontinent in an e-learning program via an existing Sakshat portal.These tablets will be powered by Linux Operating System and will be made by HCL Technologies.

To begin with, 10,000 Sakshat tablets will be delivered to the Indian Institute of Technology, Rajasthan in late June. Over the next four months more tablet units will be made ready for delivery.They will cost Rs 2,200, but the government plans to further subsidize the cost by 50 per cent. This will bring down the cost to end-users to Rs 1100/-, that’s around $35.
